iPad 3 mit Apple A6 oder A5X? Dual-Core oder Quad-Core?
Sicher ist, dass das iPad 3 am 7. März von Apple vorgestellt wird. Mit Retina-Display, größerem Akku, besseren Kameras, iOS 5.1 inklusive Siri-Sprachassistent und LTE.
Noch nicht so sicher ist allerdings, welchen Prozessor es nun enthalten wird. Während zunächst die Spekulationen auf den Apple A6 Quad-Core Prozessor hinausliefen, befindet sich jetzt der Apple A5X Dual-Core Prozessor im Blickpunkt.
Die vertraulichen Quellen iMore und Bloomberg sprachen sich für einen Quad-Core Prozessor aus. The Verge dagegen dementierte die vorherigen Berichte eines Quad-Core Prozessors und ging vom Dual-Core Prozessor aus.

Laut 9to5mac vergibt Apple folgende Namen für seine Prozessoren:
The original iPad’s A4 chip was called S5L8930X, the iPad 2′s A5 chip was called the S5L8940X, and now this A5X chip is labeled as S5L8945X. Notice the jump of 10 in the labeling on the A4 to A5, and notice the jump of only 5 on the A5 to “A5X.” The 5 would note a half-way upgrade, something that an A5X chip with improved graphics, but still dual-core processing, would be likely referred to as.
Wenn man diesem Schema folgt, heißt der nächste Prozessor “S5L8950X.” Da bisher nur Referenzen zu dem S5L8945X und S5L8950X aber nicht zum 50X(A6)-Chip im Code von iOS 5.1 Beta (Bild weiter unten) gefunden wurden, entwickelt Apple wohl beide Prozessoren simultan.
Aufgrund der Erkentnisse spekuliert 9to5mac auf folgende Möglichkeiten:
- Apple entwickelte beide Chips simultan um zu sehen, welcher besser zum iPad 3 passt.
- Der Quad Core A6-Prozessor ist für das iPad 3. Der A5X dann für einen neuen Apple TV-Nachfolger, das nächste iPhone oder ein völlig neues iOS-Gerät.
- Apple verkauft ein Billig-iPad 3 mit A5X und das “normale” iPad 3 mit A6-Prozessor.
- Das 8-Zoll iPad 3 hat den A5X-Prozessor.
AllThingsD geht von einem A5X-Prozessor im iPad 3 aus
AllThingsD hat einen Bericht vom Analysten Steve Mullane veröffentlicht. Er will von den Produktionsstätten gehört haben, dass das iPad 3 einen Dual-Core A5X-Prozessor enthalten wird.
BlueFin Research Partners analyst Steve Mullane says information coming out of the semiconductor supply chain suggests that Samsung, Apple’s chip fab partner, isn’t equipped to manufacture 28-nanometer quad-core chips, as the A6 is presumed to be….we believe the 32-nanometer ramp validates the recent rumors that the iPad 3 will likely use a higher speed, die-shrink version of the A5 dual-core processor, named the A5X processor, as opposed to the next-generation A6 quad-core processor.”
Es bleibt also weiter spannend, welcher Prozessor das Rennen nun machen wird. Welchen Prozessor wünscht ihr euch im iPad 3 oder ist es egal?
